Morphies Law Relaunches as Morphies Law: Remorphed, With Free “Fartnight” Demo

After struggling with its audience, Morphies Law: Remorphed hopes to win back players with a PC release and a free “Fartnight” demo mode.

It’s fairly difficult for a lot of independent games to break through in an overcrowded market, so developer Cosmoscope GmbH is trying again with their “robot morphology” third-person shooter Morphies Law. Relaunching as Morphies Law: Remorphed, the Switch game will also find its way onto the PC via Steam, with a number of gameplay changes coming to both versions. There’s also a demo of the game called “Fartnight,” which will let players try out the game for free—with a catch.

Per a press release, it is unclear exactly what the changes to combat and gameplay are. If you’re unfamiliar with the original release of the game, Morphies Law had a Día de Muertos-like aesthetic with Splatoon-like shooting, but shooting at other players will cause a transfer of mass between players. Shoot at an enemy’s head, and not only will their head shrink, but yours will grow. It’s a fun premise, but not one that picked up with players shortly after launch.

While I’m uncertain how the game plays differently, the press release does mention that Remorphed does make use of dedicated servers, and features full crossplay between PC and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, there are extra customization features and categories, and a “Morphie View” that lets you look at your character in detail. In a “Musical Lobby” in-between matches, players can choose a musical instrument to jam with.

In the spirit of the game’s juvenile humor, the “Fartnite” demo allows players to try out the game for free for 30 minutes with all of the game’s features. After that period of time, the game will still be available, but all sound effects will be replaced with farting noises. Players can then purchase the game for free, or tokens to unlock the original sounds and features like offline play in piecemeal, or just play the game like that forever.

I found the game to be quite disappointing in my review for the original release, but I always want to see smaller, more original games succeed, so I’m willing to reinstall the game and give it another go. The farting, I can do without, though. Check out the trailer for Morphies Law: Remorphed below, and an onslaught of screenshots with it too.
