Hasbro revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be coming to Steam’s Early Access program later in 2020 during an investor event at New York Toy Fair.
During an investor event at the New York Toy Fair, Hasbro revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will release later this year on Steam Early Access. So similarly to Larian Studios’ previous titles, Baldur’s Gate 3 will have an Early Access phase.
They also revealed that seven total D&D-based games will be releasing now through 2025 (including BG3 and Dark Alliance which were previously announced, so five other unannounced titles left). Baldur’s Gate 3 and Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is coming out this year and then a new game every year after that until 2025. For now fans can look forward to seeing more of BG3 soon, as the title will get a world gameplay premiere at the upcoming PAX East. The panel that Larian Studios will show the game off is set for February 27th at 3:30 PM ET.
Originally what seemed to be developer Larian Studios teasing either a third Divinity: Original Sin game or a third mainline Divinity game on its website turned out to be BG3 instead. And later on the title was officially announced for Google Stadia. If you’re still worried about the time period for the game, remember that this studio recently stated that it’ll come out for Stadia “when it’s ready” and they’ll be taking the time needed for it, to make sure everything is done right. So that same time and care would naturally be put into any ports of Baldur’s Gate 3 to ensure its quality.
Speaking of platforms, while the Epic Games Store has been grabbing a variety of exclusives as of late, Larian Studios doesn’t plan to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Epic’s storefront upon release. “You will see Steam pages pop up, you will see GOG pages pop up, but no Epic pages will pop up,” Swen Vincke, the founder of Larian Studios told US Gamer. “I don’t see why not; I don’t believe in exclusives, I prefer to be everywhere.”
And according to a recent spot on Nintendo Voice Chat, Vincke doesn’t seem to be ruling out a Nintendo Switch port release either, though the current hardware seems to be holding the studio back as of now.
