EA has confirmed that the next game in the Battlefield series will arrive sometime between April 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022.
EA’s financial results and prepared remarks regarding Q2 of the fiscal year have given us a fairly solid idea of what we can expect from them going forward. The publisher is doubling down on its successful sports titles and live services, though more remasters and even some new IP are also planned. In those prepared remarks, we also got a better idea of when we can expect the next Battlefield game: Fiscal Year 2022.
Specifically, EA’s Blake Jorgensen said “Targeting new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms and a growing install base on the new consoles, our next Battlefield game is set for FY22.” This confirms that Battlefield 6 will be a next-generation title, though its one we will have to wait quite a bit of time for. Fiscal Year 2022 begins on April 1, 2021 and runs until March 30, 2022, so we can expect this new Battlefield game from DICE to release sometime within that window.
While the next Battlefield game is still about two years away, EA is not abandoning support for Battlefield V; in fact, Jorgensen went as far as to say “Our Battlefield franchise and its community are also a major focus for us, and we’ll add new content and new ways to play Battlefield V in FY21.” Even though Battlefield V seemed to underperform, it is a game EA seems adamant about supporting.
If I had to guess, it is quite likely that the game will arrive during Fall 2021, as the is the typical release window for mainline Battlefield titles. Personally, I’d like to series return to a modern setting or maybe follow up on the cliffhanger from 2010’s Battlefield Bad Company 2.
