Tactical RPG, strategy simulation game Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia is coming to Switch this June alongside its beautiful artwork by Raita Kazama.
Happinet Games announced Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia will launch worldwide digitally on June 25, 2020, on Nintendo Switch. Over on Twitter, Limited Games also confirmed a physical release for Brigandine will be coming in North America.
As a reminder, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia is a Switch remake of Brigandine The Legend of Forsena, a tactical and strategy simulation RPG released in 1998 on PS1. The overall game flow is divided into a map phase where you plan your battles, and the battle phase played like a tactical RPG with hexagonal grids. Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia was announced back in September 2019. You can read more details on the game with our past coverage.
The newest trailer is included below, showcasing the game’s awesome art by Raita Kazama, some gameplay, and the seiyuu cast. If you’re into seiyuu, Brigandine has an incredible cast with tons of awesome seiyuu including Soma Saito, Kenta Miyake, Shinichiro Miki, Reina Ueda, Megumi Toyoguchi, Minami Tanaka, Wataru Hatano, Emiri Kato, Shunsuke Takeuchi, Shigeru Chiba, and Yu Serizawa. You can listen to voice samples and check out detailed introductions for each character on the official site.
As a longtime fan of Japanese tactical RPGs and as someone who heard about the original PS1 Brigandine but never touched it, I’m extremely excited for this Switch revival. Brigandine, similarly to Dragon Force on Sega Saturn, is also among the biggest influences of the strategy simulation genre. I’d most notably cite Vahrenturga, a free doujin game extremely popular in Japan, as one of the works partially inspired by Brigandine. Vahrenturga spawned many mods and brand new games using its base, including the excellent strategy simulation game Lost Technology, available on Steam. Brigandine is an important part of history, and that’s one of the many reasons why you should check the game out this June. I know I’m definitely going to.
