CD Projekt Red Speaks On How Religion Plays A Part in Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red explains how religion is built into Night City and how it influences Cyberpunk 2077.

When it comes to Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red is working to make Night City a world where you can do anything that you want (within reason). With its futuristic setting, there still was no information regarding religion in the game and whether or not it exists and, if it does, to what capacity.

In an interview with polish site Gry Online WP, CD Projekt Red went into about how it has been implemented into the game. IGN worked on the translation. This was CD Projekt Red’s response when being asked about Religion in the game:

“Yes, and in many forms. As I mentioned, our vision is somehow based on the real world. And religion is a very important part of the latter, society-wise. In our game we’re going to see for example Christianity and its different branches, or religions from the East.

We do not want to avoid religion as a topic, authenticity of the world is what counts for us. Technically, the situation you mentioned is possible, but this is all about the choices made by the player. We won’t encourage the player to do so. In our quests, which involve religious themes, we make sure there’s no disrespect.”

This interview was originally mistranslated from a thread on Neogaf. The first translation said that there was going to be a Christianity faction in the game, which is still confirmed to be true. It will be interesting seeing how CD Projekt Red executes on religion in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red announced earlier this month that the E3 demo will be present at PAX West following Gamescon in August. There is no confirmation of whether the demo will be hands-on, but I would not expect it to be.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on April 16, 2020. You can pre-order on Amazon currently for $10 off.
