The Gears of War creator says that Hideo Kojima asked to scan him into Death Stranding a few years back, but he declined.
Hideo Kojima revealed earlier this week that late night talk show host Conan O’Brien would be included in the upcoming release of Death Stranding in a cameo role, similar to one that The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley also has. This sparked God of War director Cory Barlog to openly ask on Twitter “who isn’t in this game?” with one of the impending replies being rather interesting.
Former Gears of War lead designer and head of Boss Key Productions, Cliff Bleszinski, said in a new tweet that Kojima asked him years ago to come get scanned in to Death Stranding. “He asked me to come get scanned when I was in Japan but it was as BKP was nearly over and I was starting my ‘lay low’ phase and opted out,” Bleszinski said. For reference, Bleszinski is referring to when his studio, Boss Key Productions, shuttered back in 2018. “Kinda regret it,” he added, talking about the decision in hindsight.

While Bleszinski won’t be one of the cameos in Death Stranding, clearly, there are still many other famous game developers that could end up appearing. Kojima has previously disclosed that creators such as Masahiro Sakurai and Tetsuya Mizuguchi have come by Kojima Productions at one time or another. So perhaps familiar faces like these could end up popping up in Death Stranding.
Regardless of who will be making a cameo in Death Stranding, we don’t have much longer to wait and find out. The game is set to release two weeks from today on November 8, exclusively on PS4.
