Devolver Digital is teaming with developer Moon Kid to bring old-school platformer Witcheye to iOS and Android on August 15.
Indie publisher extraordinaire Devolver Digital has been on a tear throughout 2019. They’ve put out tons of great games across just as many genres. However, they have yet to put out a new game on mobile this year. That changes next week when they bring developer Moon Kid’s latest release Witcheye to your nearest mobile device. The game was just announced last week in a colorful trailer. Check it out below.
Witcheye is an old-school platforming game, which is a genre that sometimes struggles to translate well to the touchscreen. However, Moon Kid has employed a control scheme that, on paper, sounds like it might go a long way to making the controls feel much tighter. In Witcheye, you swipe the screen to move in a direction and touch the screen to stop. It looks much more natural than using a virtual d-pad. Obviously, it’s just a trailer, but everything looks incredibly smooth in action as the player flings the titular Witcheye throughout the stages.
The game also features fun pixel art. Cuphead is the go-to comparison for tough action platforming right now, but it feels like an apt one given some of the characters shown off in the trailer. The art style isn’t as clean as that masterpiece; however, Witcheye does feature cartoony boss characters that instantly reminded me of Cuphead. The music is also very catchy and the game features over 50, secret-filled levels for you to explore. All told, this seems like a total package worth checking out.
Witcheye is out for iOS and Android devices on August 15.
