Fallout 76’s new membership finally gives players access to private worlds, but it costs at a minimum $100 per year.
Here’s some news that I’m sure will go over very well.
Bethesda announced today that Fallout 76 is getting a new paid membership feature today which is called Fallout 1st. This membership, which is available today, will finally give players access to private servers, or as Bethesda refers to them, private worlds, which players have been asking to receive for quite some time. Additionally, those who subscribe to Fallout 1st will also receive 1,650 Atoms per month, a survival tent, a scrapbox with unlimited storage, and some exclusive icons, emotes, and an outfit.
The biggest problem with Fallout 1st though is that it’s very, very pricey. At a bare minimum, subscribing to this membership will set you back $99.99 and that’s if you want to subscribe for a year. If you want to subscribe on a month-to-month basis instead, you’ll be paying $12.99 instead. Even if you’re someone who actively plays a lot of Fallout 76 and have been waiting for private servers, the value proposition here is definitely high.
It’s worth noting though that Bethesda has been clear for some time now that private servers would eventually be coming, but they would cost money upon arrival. Still, I don’t think anyone expected them to be this costly. When you could subscribe to a fantastic service like Xbox Game Pass by comparison for roughly the same amount of money annually, then you might want to rethink your membership’s cost.
Time will tell how this work’s out for Bethesda and Fallout 76 but as of now, early impressions from many are that the service’s cost is ridiculously high. It’s also still just wild to me that nearly a year after launching, this game is still somehow dealing with controversy.
We’ll have to wait and see if Bethesda ends up changing anything associated with Fallout 1st moving forward. Until then, Fallout 76 is out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
