Final Fantasy IX Receives Awesome Tribute Album with 63 Tracks

Several artists and Materia Collective have come together to create the EIDOLON: Music From Final Fantasy IX tribute album.

Final Fantasy IX launched over 19 years ago and while it is not the most famous game in the series, it is certainly one of the most beloved. 2019 has been a good year for Final Fantasy IX fans too, as the game not only released for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One back in February, but will now be receiving a beefy 63-track tribute album titled EIDOLON: Music From Final Fantasy IX as well, courtesy of Materia Collective.

Materia Collective is known for creating tribute albums based on video games. In fact, they have already released ones centered around Final Fantasy VII, which is getting a remake next year, and Final Fantasy Tactics, which will be receiving a successor on mobile titled War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. As a tribute album, artists have collaborated to recreate 63 of the game’s songs. Artists like For the King’s John Robert Matz, Fossil Hunter’s Robby Duguay, and StringPlayerGamer are all contributing.

Emily McMillian and Joe Chen, Producers of EIDOLON: Music From Final Fantasy IX, explained why they chose to tackle Final Fantasy XI next. “We thought the next Final Fantasy cover album from Materia Collective was long overdue, and we both have a big love for the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack. As the game focuses so much on character development and connections, we wanted to celebrate those ideas with a theme of collaboration. Each track on EIDOLON is the work of multiple Materia Collective artists working together to develop their interpretations of the classic music of Final Fantasy IX.”

Some of EIDOLON: Music From Final Fantasy IX’s interesting interpretations include a jazz take on “The Final Battle,” a rock opera version of “Roses of May,” and a renaissance inspired arrangement of “A Place to Call Home.” If you are familiar with the soundtrack of Final Fantasy XI, it should certainly be interesting to hear new takes and several classic pieces from the game. EIDOLON: Music From Final Fantasy XI is now available, and this page serves as a good portal to all of its storefronts.
