I reckon our collective wounds brought about by the final season of Game of Thrones have had ample time to heal now. It’s gone from being the most talked-about show in the world to something you’ll occasionally see joked about on Twitter. Such is the hype cycle, I suppose.
Behaviour Interactive’s Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall is the latest video game adaptation of the hit series. It’s set a full 48 years before the events of the show, and it focuses on the disappearance of Brynden “Bloodraven” Rivers, your old Lord Commander.
With Rivers now gone, it’s your time to take on the challenge and assume command of the Night’s Watch.
The idea is that you’ll recruit from across the Seven Kingdoms to build up your roster of heroes and ultimately defend the wall from invading forces.

For reasons pertaining to time-travel strangeness, you’ll be able to recruit multiple versions of fan-favourite characters. Some of these include Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Jaime Lannister, and Tormund Giantsbane.
Each of these heroes offers their own unique abilities to utilise in combat. It makes use of a grid-based system for battles, with a focus on putting together optimal squad combinations. You’ll have to manoeuvre the handcrafted battlefields effectively, but when all else fails, it’s time to rain down fiery death on your opponents using Dracarys.
As you continue to progress, you’ll unlock upgraded items, new tactics, traits, and powerful abilities all in the hopes of forming the best Night’s Watch the world has ever seen.
Your roster will also contain more standard unit types, including spearmen from Dorne, crossbowmen from The Westerlands, exotic fighters from The Free Cities, and scoundrels from King’s Landing. These guys can be sent on expeditions to recover rare resources.
Outside of combat, you’ll be able to explore locations such as the Haunted Forest in Weirwood Forays to uncover lost knowledge.
With this being an original tale, there are also several all-new characters to meet along the way. These include First Ranger Alvar Spyre and Mayla the Woods Witch.
Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall is set to launch for iOS and Android on March 26th. It’s a free-to-play title with optional IAPs. You can pre-register to play right now over on the App Store and Google Play.
