Half Past Fate is a time-hopping rom-com that might be a perfect game to sit back and relax with if you need some quality R&R right now.
If you’re looking for a charming game to keep your company during your social distancing period, publisher Way Down Deep might just have what you need in the form of Half Past Fate. The game tells the story of six different people who meet and interact over the course of eight years. It uses some nifty time-jumping (and a bit of ramen) to add some spiciness to the gameplay. And the best part? You can go get it right now on Nintendo Switch and PC. Give the launch trailer a watch below to see if it’s up your alley.
Half Past Fate developer Serenity Forge mentions movies like Groundhog Day, Love Actually, and You’ve Got Mail as some of their biggest inspirations. And it definitely shows. My wive’s favorite movie is, in fact, Love Actually. So it’s a movie I’m infinitely familiar with given the dozens of times I’ve been forced to watch it. You can see the parallels, especially in the way it tells its interconnected story between several hopeful romantics.
Of course, one of the best things Love Actually does is how those threads come together in surprising ways. That makes me very intrigued to see where the team takes the story. Obviously, with relatively light gameplay, it’s important that Serenity Forge nail the story. I haven’t had a chance to get my hands on it just yet. That said, what I have seen has left me relatively confident that they can pull it off.
Half Past Fate is available now on Nintendo Switch and PC. As I look through my backlog of games to play during my personal quarantine, I don’t have anything that looks quite as charming as this one. To me, it looks like a great way to spend a few days slowly working through with a pot of coffee by my side.
