It sounds like the PS5 could be worth getting excited about based on one developer’s early knowledge of the console.
PlayStation at long last announced this morning that it will finally begin revealing further details of the PS5 in a new presentation slated to take place tomorrow. This stream will feature the console’s lead architect, Mark Cerny, as he will “provide a deep dive into the PS5’s system architecture, and how it will shape the future of games.” Ahead of this new look at the platform, though, one developer in the industry has already voiced his own brief opinion on the console and it seems like it’s worth getting excited about.
Over on Twitter today, id Software’s Lead Engine Programmer, Billy Khan, commented on what he knows about the PS5 so far and simply saying, “It’s awesome.” Khan, like a multitude of other developers around the video game industry, were surely briefed on the PS5 awhile back but have since been kept from sharing details until Sony itself decided to reveal the specs of the platform to the public.
PS5 details will finally be made public tomorrow. My TLDR version – It’s awesome. https://t.co/OirGgju86s

What’s perhaps most encouraging about Khan of all people seemingly being impressed by the PS5 is tied directly back into his position. As id’s Lead Engine Programmer, Khan likely works with the system architecture of platforms far more than many other developers in the industry, meaning that if he deems the next-gen console to be “awesome” from a specs standpoint, then it surely is such.
We’ll keep you up to date with all of the latest happenings with the PS5 as they are unveiled tomorrow. As for id Software, the studio is set to release its next game, DOOM Eternal, later this week on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.
