Lock’s Quest is a tower defence game with a slight twist: You’re out there on the front-lines rather than just floating in the sky with omnipotence. It’s not the most original spin on turret defence these days but it originally released back in 2008 on the Nintendo DS and it was revolutionary then. Now, it’s coming to mobile devices later this year.
Players will take control of the titular Lock as he defends his village from the invasion of the Clockwork Army. The story unfolds over 75 days across various maps as you use a variety of traps, turrets and other helpers to repel Lord Agony’s Clockwork soldiers. Meanwhile, back on the ground as Lock himself, you can make use of a variety of context-sensitive attacks as well as more powerful Super Attacks. You can check out some gameplay in the video below.
This isn’t Lock’s Quests’ first foray onto other platforms. The game was released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC back in 2017 where it was met with a pretty negative reception compared to the more warmly received DS version. Players reported that it was difficult to control and had numerous glitches compared to the original. Hopefully, being reunited with touch controls on mobile devices will fix some of the cumbersome issues players had with the console and PC version.
Those interested in either returning to Lock’s Quest or playing it for the first time can pre-register over on Google Play or pre-order on the App Store. No concrete date has officially been announced but the App Store listing says it’s expected on 5th September, so sometime around then is a good estimate. Similarly, no price has been given for Android version but it is listed for $6.99 on the US App Store.
