If only these Dream Events shown in a new trailer for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 were in the actual Olympics.
If you think the normal events in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 are too plain for our titular competitors, maybe the fast and fantastical Dream Events shown in a new trailer are more your speed. Dream Racing, Dream Shooting, and Dream Karate are the three to see.
Dream Racing is a downhill dash on hoverboards. You pretty much know what to expect here if you’ve played Sonic Riders. You can grind, go through loops, collect coins, and, most importantly, go fast. Dream Shooting is a cartooney shooting gallery. Targets will pop up as you run through the course and can take on the form of kites. Dream Karate places you in a large ring that lights up in the spaces where you take an opponent out. Lights designate how much of the ring is being controlled by a team. The team with the most amount of real estate lit up wins.
All in all, Dream Events look like a way to take a break from simpler events like surfing and regular karate. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will also feature 2D events that harken back to a simpler, more pixelated time in video game history. You’ll get your 8-bit characters as well as your 16-bit characters. There will be 10 2D events and 21 3D events in addition to the Dream Events.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 releases for the Nintendo Switch on Nov. 5. It’s available for pre-order on Amazon now.
