Merge Magic, Zynga and developer Gram Games’ spiritual successor to Merge Dragons, is an adventure puzzle game about combining together three creatures or items to create something new and wild. This time around, you’re tasked with lifting a mysterious curse that makes your very pretty garden appear only slightly less so.
As I say, the big hook here is getting all experimental with the cross-species splicing. You could, for example, smoosh together a cat and a peacock to create a dreaded ‘Peacat’. But why stop there? Why not cobble together an elephant and a butterfly? If it wasn’t for the cutesy aesthetic, such a beast would be the stuff of nightmares, I tell ya.
When you’re not playing god, you might find yourself working through quests or tending to your impossibly lovely garden. There are also seasonal in-game events planned which will ‘offer the community different ways to interact and enjoy the gameplay’.
The core loop of combining ‘eggs, trees, treasures, stars, magical flowers, and even mythical creatures’ together to create even more powerful hybrids makes for a fun time, and it certainly sounds like there’s a lot to see and do. At launch, there are hundreds of combinable objects and over 80 challenges to beat.
Oh, and be sure to keep an eye out for the stray witches that stalk the paths of the various worlds you’ll be exploring. Nothing good can come of bumping into them, or so I’m told.
