With the film adaptation of Mortal Kombat launching in 2021, New Line Cinema have found their Shang Tsung and Scorpion.
Actor Chin Han will play Shang Tsung while Hiroyuki Sanada will play Scorpion. Both actors join Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Lewis Tan, Josh Lawson as Kano, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Bridges, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, and Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade.
Previously, Han appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Dwayne Johnson’s Skyscraper. Additionally, Sanada recently appeared in Avengers Endgame and he’s set to be in the upcoming season of Westworld and Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.
While there are no details on Mortal Kombat‘s story, the film is currently in pre-production and will start filming in Australia later this year. Additionally, Simon McQuoid is directing with Greg Russo writing the screenplay. It’s being produced by James Wan, Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear, and Jeremy Stein. The last live-action Mortal Kombat film was Mortal Kombat: Annihilation which released in 1997. This latest movie adaptation will be handled by Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema.
Mortal Kombat releases in theaters on March 5, 2021. If you can’t wait to witness some fatalities, Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
