Feels like only yesterday that Mario Kart Tour made its grand debut on the App Store and Google Play, and already Nintendo has teased a new character and track. I say teased, but really it’s more accurate to describe the tweet below as a full-on announcement. There’s nothing to guess at or ponder: Rosalina and the iconic Rainbow Road track are 100% incoming.
Rosalina plans on making her grand entrance and showing off her own Special Skill in the next tour! But what’s that course in the background? It looks like a winding road made of colorful tiles…almost like a rainbow! #MarioKartTour pic.twitter.com/gCFhjrXrCr

Despite the staggering number of download Tour has so far achieved, the chat I’m seeing online surrounding it still skews toward negative. If you’re not familiar with the game, most of the negativity centres on the ludicrous $4.99-a-month subscription service, which is currently the only way to access the higher-tier races.
The game itself is solid but mostly unremarkable. It’s a clear step above Nintendo’s last mobile offering, the grim Dr. Mario World, but obviously that’s not saying much. As I say, despite the tepid response, the game appears to be doing pretty well, at least in terms of downloads.
As you can see in the tweet above, Rosalina, a fan-favourite character from Super Mario Galaxy, is set to join the game’s cast as part of the upcoming Tokyo Tour event. On top of that, another take on the iconic Rainbow Road track is set to be added, presumably also as part of the event.
