Halloween comes early for Overwatch players.
Blizzard’s recent run of controversy hasn’t dampened their Halloween spirit. Overwatch’s annual Halloween-themed event, “Halloween Terror,” begins tomorrow, October 15. This happens to be the same day the game launches on the Nintendo Switch. The Halloween Terror event will last until November 4th.
Be reborn. 🙏

By playing Overwatch during Halloween Terror, you’ll earn a whole lot of new spooky character skins, emotes, and sprays. Last year, six new legendary skins were introduced during the Halloween Terror event: Enchanted Armor Pharah, Jack-O’-Lantern Wrecking Ball, Banshee Moira, Swamp Monster Doomfist, Slasher Soldier: 76, and Junkenstein’s Bride Sombra. I would imagine that we’ll see at least as many new skins this time around.
There are a couple of other bells and whistles included in Halloween Terror. Last year, for instance, the Hollywood map took on a Halloween motif. Hopefully we’ll see something similar this year.
The event comes arrives during a difficult time for Blizzard. The company has been in damage-control mode since the controversial ban of Ng “blitzchung” Wai Chung. Halloween Terror won’t produce the same sort of good will as, say, a Diablo 4 announcement, but it is at least a step in the right direction.
There have also been rumors regarding an Overwatch 2. An unsubstantiated leak suggested that a sequel will be an overhaul rather than a full-fledged replacement, though, and that it would feature a heavy emphasis on PvE-style gameplay à la Left 4 Dead.
In any case, we’ll surely hear more on Diablo and Overwatch at Blizzcon, which starts on November 1. In the meantime, Overwatch is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It launches on Switch Tuesday, right alongside the Halloween Terror event.
