Peace Island lets you take control of nine cats, including adorable newcomer Elizabeth, as they investigate why all the humans disappeared.
Ever played Myst and thought — man I wonder what it would be like like playing this game, but as a cat on an island? Well look further: your oddly specific dream has been answered in the form of Peace Island. It’s a game in which you play as a cat and make friends with other cats while solving smaller mysteries and one big mystery on an expansive island.
According to the Kickstarter page, Peace Island will be a “mix of science fiction, alternative history, and mystery — unfolds from the perspective of the nine cats who call the island home, when they wake up to find their human companions gone.” The game starts with a cat named Elizabeth who, upon awakening from a nap, finds that all the humans have disappeared from Peace Island.
You and the other eight cats you team up with try to solve this overarching mystery as you infiltrate, explore, discover, cooperate with other animals, and stare at walls (this is actually a teleportation mechanic). And throughout this journey players have the opportunity to experience multiple divergent storylines as they approach the ultimate decision: “Are the humans worth bringing back?”
Gameplay, as the above descriptions hint at, is focused on exploration rather than combat. Your goal is to work with others to gather as much information as possible. A welcome change of pace from the more action-heavy fare of regular games.
While the Kickstarter has long successfully ended (making $13,098 out of the $7,000 initially asked for), you can still support the game and get rewards through the developer and creator’s Patreon here. The page also provides supporters and everyone else with daily updates on the game’s progress, which will be seeing an Alpha release soon.
