The wait for Pokémon Snap 2 continues…
GamesCentral at Metro recently sat down with Pokémon Sword and Shield producer Junichi Masuda and director Shigeru Ohmori regarding different topics related to the new generation of Pokémon. Nearing the end of the interview, GamesCentral did the good deed and asked them about what every Pokémon fan has been wanting for years: Pokémon Snap 2.
The duo was asked about the potential for a sequel to Pokémon Snap and why one hasn’t ever come about, especially with platforms like the Wii U where it seemed like it would’ve made sense. Both of them proceeded to laugh with Masuda responding by saying, “All I can say is that I don’t think we can just make the same thing again. So we’d have to come up with a very unique twist on this if we do make another one.”
If the Wii U gamepad or Labo VR isn’t unique enough to release a new entry in the beloved series spin-off then I would not expect Pokémon Snap 2 anytime soon. It is understandable that they’d want to do a fresh take on the title to justify making a follow-up in the first place. But, also knowing that there are so many fans out there that want a sequel, even if it was to just be a copy of the original but with new Pokémon, then why not do it? Maybe I’m just being an entitled gamer.
Pokémon Snap originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 1999 making it 20 years since it came out. Fans have been waiting so long for the sequel and it seems like that wait will not be ending soon. Now, where is the new Pokémon Pinball?
