With the next Mortal Kombat film releasing in 2021, Power Rangers actor Ludi Lin is in talks to play Liu Kang in the upcoming film reboot.
Following The Raid star Joe Taslim being cast as Sub-Zero, Variety reports that Power Rangers actor Ludi Lin is in talks to play Liu Kang in the upcoming Mortal Kombat film reboot.
Releasing in 2021, this will be the first live-action Mortal Kombat film to release in over 20 years after Mortal Kombat: Annihilation released in 1997. This new film will be produced by Aquaman director James Wan, written by Mortal Kombat: Annihilation‘s Greg Russo, and be directed by Simon McQuoid. The last bit of news about the movie was that it would be R-rated and feature fatalities. Currently, there’s no official word on what the new film’s story will be and what other characters will make an appearance.
Recently, actor Ludi Lin appeared in season five of Black Mirror on the Striking Vipers episode. Additionally, Lin appeared in 2018’s Aquaman, Netflix’s Marco Polo series, and he played the black ranger in 2017’s Power Rangers. He’s set to appear in Son of the South, Netflix’s The Ghost Bride, Amazon and AMC’s Humans, and Summer Knight.
The Mortal Kombat film is currently in pre-production and it’ll begin shooting in Adelaide, Australia later this year. Additionally, the film is being handled by New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers. As the film gets closer to filming, we’re bound to get more casting news and a sense of what the story will be.
Mortal Kombat will release on March 5, 2021. While we wait for the new film, Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
