Shantae 5 is Now Shantae and the Seven Sirens Reveals Developer WayForward

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is the latest game in the Shantae series and brings tons of new gameplay additions and a big, interconnected tropical world.

Back in March, developer WayForward announced the fifth entry into the longrunning Shantae series. At the time, the game was known as just Shantae 5. However, the team has now unveiled the official title – Shantae and the Seven Sirens. Along with the new title, the devs took to Twitter to announce several new features coming to the game.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens will give players an interconnected tropical world to platform their way through. The game will let you transform into brand-new creatures like a newt and give you lots of new ways to power up your character. As you play, you’ll collect monster cards that let you switch up Shantae’s abilities to suit your playstyle. You’ll also see some fan-favorite allies returning, along with several new friends to meet.

The one thing that’s always stood out to me in the Shantae series has been the art. It’s got that fun, anime style that makes it stand out next to some of the more popular games in the genre (see: Mario). That appears to be back with this release. Seven Sirens will have 4K hand-painted visuals on consoles that support the resolution and boasts “TV-style cutscenes”.

I didn’t play the last Shantae game (despite owning it on both PC and PS4), but it seems well-received by the community. Hopefully, the changes WayForward have made to the game keep that same level of quality and find ways to clean up some of the rough spots.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is coming to Apple Arcade, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One. A release date hasn’t been announced yet but should be coming relatively soon.
