Despite the nearing release of the PS5 next year, Ghost of Tsushima is still planned to release on the PS4.
It’s been over a year since we’ve heard or seen anything worthwhile about Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch’s next big first-party project. As silence has continued to surround the project and news on other titles like Death Stranding and The Last of Us Part II has started to come about in droves (including release dates for both titles), some have started to wonder if Ghost of Tsushima would end up being a PS5 title, rather than one for PS4. As Sony has stated previously though, this still doesn’t seem to be in the cards.
In a message from Sony President Jim Ryan today that revealed new details about the PS5, Ryan also again restated that Ghost of Tsushima is indeed a PS4 game. “While there’s much more to share about PlayStation 5 in the year ahead, we have plenty of blockbuster experiences coming your way on PS4, including Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, and Ghost of Tsushima,” Ryan said in the blog post.
While this isn’t necessarily shocking, this news does seem to potentially indicate that Ghost of Tsushima will be released prior to the PS5, which is set to arrive in late 2020. Obviously, plans could end up changing in the coming months or year, but the fact that Sony continues to restate this information makes it seem likely. I mean, you’d imagine that Sony would want all of their biggest PS4 first-party titles to release prior to the launch of their next console hardware, right?
Hopefully, as Death Stranding and The Last of Us Part II finally each release in the coming months, Sony will then shift the marketing focus to Ghost of Tsushima. What we’ve seen of the Sucker Punch-developed title so far looks phenomenal, and I know that I for one am very eager to see more of it.
