Five Nights at Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery from Illumix will release for both iOS and Android in 2019.
It’s Friday the 13th, so today is a fitting time to hear more about horror games. Even better for FNAF fans, a brand new title in that series was unveiled today. Developed by Illumix, Five Nights at Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery, a title that takes advantage of augmented reality technology to bring the series’ characters into the real world, is coming to iOS and Android. Check out the latest teaser trailer below:
Series creator Scott Cawthon actually teased this game in a post back in August, but today Illumix is actually detailing what Five Nights at Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery entails. The augmented reality game does not rely on geolocation like Pokemon Go or Minecraft Earth, a stance explained by Illumix CEO and Co-Founder Kirin Sinha. “Augmented Reality offers new ways for players to interact and engage with their favorite franchises by blending real-world environments, fictional characters, and innovative gameplay. With Five Nights at Fredddy’s AR: Special Delivery, we wanted to evolve beyond the traditional AR-optional geolocation gameplay and deliver a more meaningful AR experience by having AR as the core component of the game,” she explains.
2018 has been an experimental year for the FNAF franchise as Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted released back in May and translated the series’ formula into the fledgling VR gaming space. Five Nights at Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery seems to be doing the same with AR. When it comes to future titles, Scott Cawthon has confirmed that console and mobile ports of the original series, a AAA multiplayer game, and a mysterious game currently on hold called FNAF: Into Madness are in the works. The movie adaptation is also still being made, and new novels continue to release to this day.
