The White Wolf now leads the fantasy TV pack.
We all need an escape from time to time. Whether you get it from playing games or watching TV, it doesn’t really matter as long as you don’t come back down to Earth. That might explain why sci-fi and fantasy TV are the most in-demand right now, with The Witcher from Netflix leading the pack.
The show, inspired by novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, is the most in-demand TV series worldwide currently, according to data firm Parrot Analytics. It has held this spot since it overtook The Mandalorian seven weeks prior. That would explain why Netflix is rushing to get a second season of the show out as soon as possible.
The Witcher‘s popularity has even affected other Witcher media. Soon after launching on Netflix, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt saw its concurrent users on Steam reach an all-time high nearly 5 years after the game’s original launch. And recently, analytical firm The NPD Group found that after the show’s debut, physical sales of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt didn’t just jump, but pole-vaulted by 554 percent, although that is also thanks to the game’s port to the Switch. As for its source material, the publisher of The Witcher novel series is reprinting 500,000 copies to meet demand following the show’s success.
