Tom Clancy's Elite Squad coming to Android first later this year

First announced back at E3 2019, Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad is a real-time strategy game that tasks you with assembling a crack team composed of Ubisoft’s most iconic characters, as well as some not-so-iconic ones. The tweet below was first spotted by Gaming On Phone.

After a spell of relative silence, we now know that the game is set to launch first for Android devices later this year. As is to be expected, it’ll roll out across select regions first. What those regions may be is currently unknown, though the usual suspects are often the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand.

Battles here are said to be fast-paced and easy to get into, with teams of 5 going head to head for neat rewards. You can expect to be collecting characters from Splinter Cell, The Division, Rainbow Six, and Ghost Recon. Sam Fisher is here, teasing long-term fans as usual.

The game looks… fine, I guess. I’m glad that the visuals are stylised, ditching gritty realism for a more stripped-back aesthetic. Response to the announcement trailer was a little mixed, mostly because of the addition of Sam Fisher in yet another game that isn’t Splinter Cell.

The main criticism going around is that it appears to be another uninspired squad-based strategy game, which we certainly have an abundance of on mobile at the moment. Still, I haven’t played it, and chances are you haven’t either, so maybe it’ll surprise us all and be better than bang average?

If you know your Megans from your Montagnes, Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad could well be for you. Look for it on Android first later this year; it’ll launch for iOS further down the line.
