Trails of Cold Steel III’s demo is out and includes the backstory menu with characters introductions, lore, and story summaries.
NIS America released the PSN demo for Trails of Cold Steel III. A new trailer was released as well, reintroducing Falcom’s JRPG and the huge series it’s part of. It also introduces the main characters and the battle system, one of the bests when it comes to turn-based.
The game’s demo includes the beginning of the game. What’s interesting though, and it happens often in the series, is how it begins in media res. You’ll need to do a bit of dungeon exploring and see story events happening later in the story, before reaching the real beginning, and the rad opening with the song Spiral of Erebos playing.
What’s pretty nice is how the demo includes the story summaries for the first two Trails of Cold Steel games, along with a lexical and character introductions to get details on the others Trails games, which are very important too. So you can start reading right away.
As someone who knows about the series, let me give you a piece of advice. If you’re a newcomer and planning to start with Trails of Cold Steel III, I suggest playing the other games too when you’re done with it. Even if you play them after III, it’s better that way. This will make the wait for Trails of Cold Steel IV‘s English release much easier (hopefully it’ll happen), and make you enjoy the series and the events you saw in Cold Steel III much more.
Trails of Cold Steel III got another trailer at Gamescom 2019. I also highly recommend reading our interview with Falcom’s President Toshihiro Kondo. If you’re a huge fan passing by, you should check out our summaries of the Kiseki/Trails series 15th’s anniversary event here and here.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III launches exclusively on PS4 on October 22. You can preorder it on Amazon.
