Draw Distance has unveiled some tasty new information about its instalment of the Vampire: The Masquerade franchise, Coteries of New York.
According to its Steam page, Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York will be a text-based story putting you in the shoes of a “newly-fledged” vampire in New York. There are multiple playable characters from different factions to choose from, and the whole thing supposedly plays a lot like a Telltale game.
Announced back in June, the game will feature canon lore for the fifth edition of Vampire the Masquerade.
From what we’re told in the most recent update from the developers, the game takes place in the middle of a conflict between rival vampire factions – the Camarilla and the Anarchs.
At the start of the game you’re a member of the authoritarian Camarilla sect, but the game seems very focused on it being a choice-based adventure, and you’ll ultimately be able to decide what faction you ally with.
“Coteries of New York presents players with choices that matter, aiming to deliver a dark, atmospheric, and emotional narration mixed with morally challenging dilemmas,” Draw Distance writes.
“We plan to include significant branching and reactivity, so that the players feel their decisions influence the world around them and encourage multiple playthroughs for those invested in the world and story of Coteries of New York.”
Players will have to pay attention to Hunger and Humanity mechanics – vampires have to feed after all, and ignoring Hunger for too long will have consequences. Humanity, on the other hand, is a measure of your morality, and depending on your morals you’ll have access to different story choices.
Overall, the player will need to make an attempt to balance out these two factors, as the game will track how well you blend into “mortal society”. Easier said than done when you have to bite people to stay alive.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York is slated for a release for both PC and Switch at some point over the next few months, and seems like a good title to tide over fans of the series before Bloodlines 2 drops next year.
