Yakuza 7 Officially Revealed as Yakuza: Like a Dragon in the West, Toshihiro Nagoshi Explains Name Change

Yakuza: Like a Dragon Japanese TGS 2019 trailer details RPG battle system, Job System and the party-building useful, Persona-like minigames.

On the first day of Tokyo Game Show 2019, going from September 12 to 15, Sega revealed the western announcement trailer for Yakuza 7. The game will be titled Yakuza: Like a Dragon in the west. This name was initially tweeted by Sega of America a few days ago, but later deleted, so it was unclear if the game was really called that or not. Here’s the western announcement trailer:

The trailer is pretty self-sufficient. It’s similar to the Japanese announcement trailer but with many new scenes, and multiple new characters getting introduced.

The other TGS trailer with tons of gameplay footage is below.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is named Ryu Ga Gotoku 7: Hikari to Yami no Yukue in Japan. During the stage event where the trailer got revealed, Sega’s Creative Chief Officer Toshihiro Nagoshi explained why they didn’t call the game Yakuza 7 in the west. Basically, seeing the game is similar and yet different, they opted to change the brand name as well. Hence why the Like a Dragon part is bigger than Yakuza on the logo.  It’s part of the Yakuza series and inherits from it, but also different.

They also revealed the characters for two of the Special Prize winners during the big election.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon launches on January 16 in Japan and later in 2020 in the west. Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be coming to PS4. Be sure to check our TGS 2019 schedule to avoid missing some gameplay or anything related to the game.
