Zombieland: Double Tapper is an idle RPG based on the upcoming Zombieland: Double Tap – the sequel to the 2009 cult-hit original You’ll head out on a road trip and amass a large roster of characters that you can upgrade with various weapons, learning new ways to decapitate the zombie horde. Of course, there’ll be familiar faces from the films to find too.
The game is a trifecta of collaboration between Sony Pictures Television, Tilting Point and Metagame Studios. If you’ve looked at the art style and thought it looks familiar then you may have played Tap Busters: Galaxy Heroes, a previous joint effort between Tilting Point and Metagame Studios which we thought had its moments but was mostly uninspiring.
But considering it was Metagame Studios’ first outing, that’s not bad really. It had good comedic writing, and that makes it a very good match for Zombieland. It also looks to expand on the mechanics found in that game adding a bit of depth where the original lacked. While in Tap Busters you only ever had one character to customise, in Double Tapper you’ll have a whole squad, which potentially opens up a plethora of build types.
At its core though, it is – as the name implies – a tapper, so you can probably expect a fairly easy-going experience whilst enjoying the odd reference to the films and recognising characters in their stylised forms. If you’re looking for something to really get your teeth into, this might not be your thing.
No release date has been announced yet but since Zombieland: Double Tap is releasing on 18th October you can probably expect it around then. If you were a fan of Tap Busters, or just want to consume as much Zombieland content as possible, then you can pre-register now. Those who do so will also receive a golden banjo for their efforts.
